Arbcom Elections 2021
Just noting the pre-RFC is already up and running.
Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Arbitration Committee Elections December 2021 (T-H-L)
So far it looks like the biggest real proposed change is implementing a Single transferable vote (T-H-L) (AKA ranked choice voting) system. I'm also finding the discussion of voting eligibility of partially-blocked users interesting as it is something I hadn't even considered.

Re: Arbcom Elections 2021
Hmm. Ranked choice would be a very interesting change, and I imagine it'd take a few elections to see how it fundamentally changes (or doesn't) how the election goes and the types of people who win.
The current system definitely enables certain candidates to meet the threshold more by absence of opposition, rather than strength of support, but I don't see how the system, based on the Board elections, would change that—if you don't support someone it essentially is a neutral, and there's really no way to oppose much beyond completely filling out the ballot (and given how few people vote straight support/oppose that won't be likely to me?)
I doubt it'll happen, though. New voting systems, even if better, are often scary for electorates.

Oh yeah, the next ACE phase is past us already Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Arbitration Committee Elections December 2021/Electoral Commission (T-H-L). Probably not that bog of a deal. The next bit is the actual nomination period, which opens November 4.

No big changes came out of this, by the way. Partially blocked users can still vote, bots cannot (seriously, we just now got around to that?) that looks like about it.Beeblebrox wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 10:04 pmJust noting the pre-RFC is already up and running.

Re: Arbcom Elections 2021
Looking at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2021#Vacant seats (T-H-L), it's mostly us crusty old timers whose terms are expiring. I don't recall who has and has not said so publicly, but there's a few who for sure are not running again, and Xeno already resigned. So there may be fairly heavy turnover this year. That's probably a good thing.

Over halfway through the nomination period and ... a total of one candidate. Presumably half a dozen more will appear over the weekend.

Every year I'm surprised yet again how many people jump in at the last possible second.
But given that a lot of candidates sometimes seem to just be jumping in depending on how weak the pool is, that's perhaps not surprising.
I don't get the sense the Committee was all that "exciting" this year so that will depress the number of people interested in general.

As a bit of history for those who might not have been around or remember, the old Wikipedia Review did have editor-named subforums like that too. I'm guessing that Mr. Barbour probably just used that as a "template" for the Sucks "structure" while helping to devise its nth incarnation's architecture.Hemiauchenia wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 5:27 amAlso, the fact that Sucks has an entire Beeblebrox subforum is hilarious

Ming was wondering whether he'd gone off his meds, having posted an entirely readable and not totally unreasonable reaction to Andrew D's restrictions, but apparently that was a lapse.

If that means:
* No more Star Chamber cases from Trust&Safety
* No more secret evidence that defendants can't see
* No more secret complainants that can't be cross examined
* No more cases where the defendant is banned and cannot participate in their own defense
* 'Recused' actually means what recused means
Then it seems all right with me...

Re: Arbcom Elections 2021
The Fram case should be brought up and an answer insisted upon for every candidate.
Here is a list of en.wp people who need to have an eye kept on them.
That's s long list of recidivist shitheels right there.
Hmmm...
This seems a long way from his publicly stated, "ARBCOM should be more like a court!" position.

Perhaps someone should ask him about this !vote.Oppose This kind of remedy has been floating around Wikipedia's dispute resolution processes since time immemorial, and it's not effective. If this sort of action is what it takes to get the message through, I say do it. Banedon (talk) 02:29, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Also I can imagine the press coverage that could easily happen if Fram is unbanned and the media starts talking to the people he allegedly harassed. Chances are they'll report the allegations, maybe find the diffs (if the victims are willing), and then conclude that on Wikipedia, if the community kicks up enough of a fuss, they can overrule the WMF's actions. Maybe some will like this kind of portrayal, but I find it very unflattering. Banedon (talk) 02:33, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

How about now, Ritchie?
Want to take another stab at it?I don't believe Laura Hale has had anything directly to do with this and the vitriol directed at her is quite unpleasant. If a bunch of people shouted at you, "your work sucks, don't let the door hit you on the way out", would you ever want to contribute again? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:04, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
