Nice to see The Great Philosopher is adapting to reality like a mature, rational adult.

I don't have a hard time believing that there were that many people who didn't bother to educate themselves about down-ballot issues. I suspect there would be as many if nor more that voted only for Trump and ignored other races.

After all, ignoring other races is what they do.

See what I did there?

Larry Sanger has posted a link to a news story about the nearly 90,000 people currently accusing the Boy Scouts of past sexual abuse. (Yes, that's 90,000 cases. Not a typo.) Sanger's take on the situation?
Poor, poor Boy Scouts. They were a great org for learning manly skills and making loyal friends who could take care of themselves but were happy to help, too. Destroyed from within by a deadly combo of progressive politics and—no surprise—now child abuse.
I can't think of many organizations that are less progressive than the Boy Scouts. They have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th Century, but progressive they ain't. And this is sexual abuse of young boys that goes back decades and decades. Sanger seems to prefer ranting about imaginary celebrity pedophile rings than accepting the very real horrors that the Boy Scouts of America ignored and abetted.

Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a thing, but it's still amazing how they can believe that the system is totally rigged for Biden, yet the Democrats apparently didn't care about rigging the system in 2016 (I know, I know, the answer is apparently they just believed the polls, but... why wouldn't that have been an issue this year too when the polls were off?) and didn't care about actually electing the Democratic legislatures they need to push Biden's scary far-left agenda.

Like the Catholic Church, it's highly variable how progressive or not your troop or parish is. But while it might be giving Sanger too much credit, I don't think he's downplaying the sex abuse stuff, just saying (as I agree) that it's a shame an organization that does a lot of good (like with the Church, I might not agree with a lot of it but I do credit it for being a positive force in my life) is getting wrecked by their self-inflicted failure to deal with a serious problem.*

*Ironically the Catholic Parishes when I was growing up were much more aggressive about child protection policies with their organizations than the Protestant troops, which caused a lot of friction in the scouts because of the "treat me like a criminal" aspects of the policies (getting fingerprinted, etc.) Of all the faults with our troop, it's hard for me to imagine any of the adults being abusive, but of course I imagine that's what most people think about the adults in their orbits.

I enjoy reading Larry’s lunatic ravings. They’re every bit an unhinged as our commander-in-chief’s, but with less dread, since he doesn’t have nukes at his disposal.

How is DeWine’s 10 PM curfew going to affect him, anyway? I don’t picture him the type to go out clubbing. But maybe he’s got an exciting night life he hasn’t yet tweeted about.

The dumbest part of these rants is they care so much about their freedoms they refused to do the sensible thing and wear masks and stay home in the spring, which directly has lead to this ongoing hellscape.

The fact that basically everyone besides islands is having massive surges makes me feel a little better about the US if worse for humanity as a whole, but the selective caring about freedoms only when it comes to hurting other people never fails to piss me off.

That's called "mah freedumbs".

A bunch of them keep bringing up "the government doesn't have the right to make me wear a mask and stay home". And yes, that may be true, technically. But doing it anyway is still the smart and responsible thing. I tell friends it's really a shame nobody is still around from the Spanish Flu epidemic to comment on this.

I suppose that Larry takes it for granted that if you're a real Christian you're a hardline Baptist Trump supporter. He regards for example the many Catholics who object to some of Trump's social policies and therefore vote Democrat as not really true believers.

The Great Philosopher spends two hours doing a podcast. He keeps the cray in check for the first twenty minutes or so before he's off and running on Jesus Christ and Hillary Clinton.

The interviewer is pretty terrible.

If an evil scientist went back to when you were a three-week-old embryo in your mother’s womb, and performed an abortion on her, would he be guilty of murder (in addition to his other crimes)?
If a non-evil scientist went back to before you were conceived and prevented your conception, would she be guilty of murder (in addition to her other crimes which are not specified but include cock-blocking your parents)? This guy has an actual Doctorate in philosophy? From a school?

Perhaps due to the build-up of amyloid plaque, he's mis-remembering Paley's 1802 teleological theodicy as somehow related to Dawkins' 1986 book? Admittedly we Philosophy majors do have a tendency to be somewhat scatter-brained, even at the best of times.

I've often wondered what people think the dimensions of microchips are, compared to a tube through a needle. Anyway, why should Bill Gates or whoever bother with using vaccines when microchips can be teleported into people's bodies when they come near 5G masts?

Well he's officially given up on the "no politics" now. Screaming about how everything that happened in DC was actually Antifa, not Trump supporters.
Maybe it's time to change the thread title to "Larry Sanger, Insane Fascist Idiot."

Works for me.
Move it to the public facing boards.

Larry's an idiot.

Here's his horned guy.

QAnon Shaman.
32-year-old Jake Angeli, a familiar face at pro-Trump rallies and a purported QAnon conspiracy theorist sometimes referred to as the “QAnon Shaman,”
Larry tried to sell him as antifa

This thread is already publicly visible, actually. What we have to do now is think like a casual reader who's just heard that one of the co-founders of Wikipedia may be a QAnon-supporting weirdo seditionist. They'll never find this thread by typing in just "larry sanger," there's just too much conventional media coverage out there — but "larry sanger qanon" has us at #5, just below Reddit, and I think we can probably do even better. (We're #1 for "larry sanger shark," at least.)

Whatever we might have thought about Sanger in the past, when he was at least marginally sane, it's important that people know about what he is now, especially anyone thinking of starting out on Wikipedia in the near term.

As for his Wikipediocracy account, if he wants to drop by here to call us names on occasion, that's fine. But the minute he shows up to spew cult propaganda at us, he's gone.

According to my friend's FB feed, the antifa card is the current MAGA trope going around. Whatever makes them feel better. :decomp:

No, you win. Sanger criticized Rep. Emanuel Cleaver on Jan. 3 for saying "amen and a-woman" at the end of the opening prayer.

I was about to post that.

Larry is as loony as Trump, though not nearly as dangerous.

People should start mass flagging his twatter posts so they get tagged as fake news like they're doing with Fuhrer Trump.

Well, I can't stand Larry a little bit more than the next guy, but I recommend toning down the title of this thread, which crosses into potentially libelous territory...

Which word is libelous, "cultist"? I guess we could change it to "enthusiast," but he's a public figure and he's definitely into that stuff. Dollars to doughnuts he's more into it than he lets on, too.
