Does commons implant algorythems?
Recently while editing other Wikis and looking to add images on them I noticed many of my search result consisted of pics related to my previous searches.
Anyone else notice that or know what's up with that?

I think this is a question for the reference desks.

It's not impossible that you have some cookies. Or if you're using Google Chrome, Google may be helpful. Try switching to Firefox and using the Bing search engine.

Well, Bing is guaranteed to be unhelpful.Poetlister wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 1:03 pmIt's not impossible that you have some cookies. Or if you're using Google Chrome, Google may be helpful. Try switching to Firefox and using the Bing search engine.

There's DuckDuckGo and Brave (yes, Brave now has a search engine).

And Bing/Microsoft serves up its ads and hands over a cut to Ekoru (while it tracks you through its ad network, of course).AndyTheGrump wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 11:53 pmEkoru gets its search results from very-corporate Bing. link

Those cuts go to cleaning the ocean, so it's a good cause.Giraffe Stapler wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 2:17 amAnd Bing/Microsoft serves up its ads and hands over a cut to Ekoru (while it tracks you through its ad network, of course).

Don't be a sucker. That cut goes to paying the salaries of the staff of Ekoru and some of what is left over goes to "cleaning the ocean". If you want to help "clean the ocean" (or any other cause) give money directly to the charity/group/person. Everyone who touches a donation takes a cut of it. Cut out the middleman.Ca$hBag wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:22 amThose cuts go to cleaning the ocean, so it's a good cause.Giraffe Stapler wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 2:17 amAnd Bing/Microsoft serves up its ads and hands over a cut to Ekoru (while it tracks you through its ad network, of course).
You said you didn't use "corporate search engines" but if you use Ekoru, you use Bing, as AndyTheGrump pointed out. Saying "it's a good cause" doesn't mean you aren't using a corporate search engine. What's your problem with "corporate search engines" anyway?

Re: Does commons implant algorythems?
Actually donation organizations pay staff salaries. Search engines by contrast with millions of users around the world can afford to finance the cause with a percentage going to the staff since they're getting so much revenue everyday.Giraffe Stapler wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 1:43 amDon't be a sucker. So can you second guess, who's the real sucker
Re: Does commons implant algorythems?
Actually you are both right, depending on the charity and setup. VI contributions are almost always separate from contract cash regardless, but how it is spent is entirely at a charity-level. I dont know enough about any of the orgs here to comment on their specifics.
