maybe a bunch of bored redditors are going to get involved with the site which has been called "reddit disguised as an encyclopedia"

Re: Most subreddits go private in protest
I think there's actually a fair amount of overlap in the problems with Reddit and Wikipedia, insofar as one of the issues that brought this to a head was Reddit's piss-poor moderation tools and bad first-party app experience. Of course, Wikipedia doesn't have to worry about their crap management trying their best to ruin the product in a mad dash to get to an IPO, so small mercies there.
I'm impressed that 6000+ Subreddits are still dark as the two-day strike period wanes. If a decent number of the big subreddits keep this up, it's going to force Reddit's hand one way or another, and trying to create new subreddits or forcibly assume control of existing ones is only going to exacerbate their issues.

Aww, seems https://reddark.untone.uk/ shit the bed, that was a pretty neat interface to see who was up and who was not.
It was only supposed to go through the 14th, exact time varies, but some of the big ones are coming back online now. I need my AITA fix.

Reddark It is working again.
Any idea who moderates r/wikipedia, it is anyone known or connected to the WMF? They have joined the blackout as well.

No luck checking the Internet Archive. I checked the most recent save and the first one this year and the mods have been unlisted the whole time. A deeper investigation may be warranted…

Down from 7000+ to 5300 dark currently, although that number doesn't include the shift to restricted.
Considering the Reddit CEO basically was baiting them into continuing, doesn't seem like a bad result thus far.

I'm genuinely surprised that r/funny moderators have continued the blackout, given their initial reaction to people calling for them to go indefinitely was to call people "trolling" and lock the announcement thread.

Given that very little on r/funny was ever actually funny (and I say this as somebody who has been on reddit for over a decade), I don't think it's a huge loss honestly.casualdejekyll wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 12:31 amI'm genuinely surprised that r/funny moderators have continued the blackout, given their initial reaction to people calling for them to go indefinitely was to call people "trolling" and lock the announcement thread.
