Re: The missing WMF Transparency report for H1 of 2022

It was 100% about money. The money that the Indian government could extract from wmf is paltry. Like a fraction of what Modi would spend in a single political rally. It's also not about the articles on historical figures or religious matters (which are already not too contentious). It is about cont...

About 27 separate takedown notices were issued by the Govt of India between Jan and March 2022
Do you know what was the nature of these takedown requests? Were they political in nature? Were they accompanied with requests to identify personal information of users who violate Indian laws?

Re: Are Wikipedia Commons processes dead or deliberately ineffective?

Sad. Copyvio CSDs still get deleted at quick pace after tagging. Deletion discussions always had very sparse participation. Props to king of hearts and others for doing the major work there for so long.

Re: The slogan that anyone can suggest changing

They've had this exact same discussion before, on multiple occasions. But the thing they never suggest is adding a simple qualifier. It could be "nearly anyone," "practically anyone," "almost anyone," "just about anyone"... any number of similar terms could work, and make the statement much more ac...

Re: Wikipedia alternatives or replacements.

I think plenty of people would put up with Wikipedia with ads—the amount of people I see playing "free" games where you have to sit through 20 seconds of unstoppable video ads sort of proves it. Overall, Wikipedia itself does not cost a ton, especially if you just let MediaWiki do the load of devel...

...the votes by FeydHuxtable and Lightburst (1 oppose and 1 neutral, for daring to vote in favor of Andrew Davidson 's deletion topic ban) made me roll my eyes so hard they fell out of their sockets. I assume you were able to get them back in, but when that happens you should always make an appoint...

I know Molly and David are super outraged but are holding back. lol

If Jimbo can sell some nft's on wikipedia's back and get rich, why can't a crypto bro be included in WMF. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Re: Tamzin RfA

Well, my point was that I think it's gross to say that a queer person is selfish, or "solipsistic", for caring about anti-queer prejudice. That's all. That's not why I used that word for. Trump was, in her opinion, oppressive to lgbt community. Obama/Biden, in my opinion, were oppressive to say, Ye...

Re: Tamzin RfA

The fight will be over a political topic with lots of pointing back to Q14. The results will be the same. The crying will be similar to when Rexxs was kicked off the island. If promoted, I have a cool trick in mind to avoid getting desysopped for saying controversial political things. Bet you'll ne...

Re: Tamzin RfA

The idea that someone who's life is being legislated out of existence might feel pretty fucking strongly about politics is foreign to you, I imagine. Think about why that might be. Imagine a Yemeni candidate coming to RfA saying Obama supporters should be desysoped because he bombed my family in a ...

From https://harvardpolitics.com/obama-war-criminal/ Obama approved the use of 563 drone strikes that killed approximately 3,797 people. In fact, Obama authorized 54 drone strikes alone in Pakistan during his first year in office. One of the first CIA drone strikes under President Obama was at a fun...

Re: Tamzin RfA

but Tamzin may not decline to support those whose views she finds despicable.

Keep adding detergent while you whitewash what she said. Nobody would have given a fck if she said she is anti-Trump. What was problematic was she saying she would favour desysoping a Trump supporter.

You could make a case that Bolsonaro or Erdogan or Le Pen or Xi or Modi are oppressors too. Ban all their supporters until you get a coterie of liberal elites as rule makers and crush all the dissent. Turn the oppressor into the oppressed. Trump supporters are guilty by association. They are vicari...

Re: Tamzin RfA

I wonder if the same special courtesy and red carpet treatment that has been shown to Tamzin would be shown to a candidate who ran saying anyone continues to be a Bush supporter should be desysoped because in their view Bush is an oppressor and war mongerer.
