Very old news.

Re: Manipulating WP Content: Israeli Program to Train Editor
It continues today. They at least had the sense to shitcan AnkhMorpork (T-C-L) from the topic area, after he tried to turn a collection of articles like Derby sex gang (T-H-L) into a broader "Muslims-rape-white-wimmin" platform.

He (or someone using that name) has just registered here, so maybe you'll be hearing his point of view on the matter soon.
My question, to this esteemed Wiki community, is this: Do you think that a Wiki could successfully generate a useful encyclopedia? -- JimboWales
Yes, but in the end it wouldn't be an encyclopedia. It would be a wiki. -- WardCunningham (Jan 2001)

Yes, these zealots usually pop up wherever and whenever you discuss their nefarious misdeeds. The Wikipedia Review was graced with the presence of Wikifan12345 (T-C-L) and Malcolm Schosha (T-C-L) for a time.

See Gerald Scarfe (T-H-L) and its recent history for more crap being produced by the propaganda machine. There do seem to be some sensible editors trying to check things but why a quote from the head of a religious fundamentalist organisation is given any space I do not know.

Remember Arnie Draiman... linkA true warrior of 'NGO Monitor'
Several years ago, comedian Stephen Colbert nature of the term Truthiness (real) change reality to fit the sub's perceptions of reality, usually by editing Wikipedia. Last May, the English Wikipedia revealed the identity of one of the largest dealers in the area, and to my embarrassment is employed by NGO Monitor, he's busy intensive monitoring after human rights organizations.
Get the very active editor Soosim. trial raises real name of the horse, as he wrote it in 2008 and then did not use it again, he Driimn Arnie (Arnie Draiman). Anyone searching your name, find it appears as Ngo"m online media .
This in itself should not have to bother too much, if the quality of articles that loved Driimn edit . He edited the English values of B'Tselem, an organization Sngo"m consistently validated, the New Israel Fund (his contribution to this value was the second largest) of the Human Rights Watch, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel by attorney Michael Sfard (Disclosure: I working in front of him and he sold and friend) of the "City of peoples", and the "Yesh Din" (More disclosure: I provide her writing services freelance.) in many of these values (for example, the value of "Yesh Din" ), fixed targets of his employer, the position of the implant Driimn his organization, everything in secret and without reporting on the conflict of interests.
But it does not end there. Driimn edited the values of Ngo"m and the organization's director, Gerald Steinberg. Fact, he was their main writer. Among other things, is the value of the value of Ngo"m funding , subject Mango " m very sensitive to it (they are always good demanding that others will reveal their funding sources.) with exposure of Driimn, accompanied by a suspension set estimates in Wikipedia after it turned out that he also used into account further editing , decided to editors set the value as such his neutrality disputed and as such is written primarily for by the close . certain stage, entertaining note Driimn claimed that " hardly seems fair to say Sngo"m online deals with terrorism. " Terrorism Maybe not, but sabotage?
So what edits were performed Driimn? What took Ngo"m money to distort the truth? Sometimes silly, like a futile attempt Driimn remove the word "occupied" the value of Ariel University . could be that he just thought he was the Hebrew Wikipedia. Otherwise, he tried to promote the propaganda Ngo"m and Steinberg's alleged human rights organizations did not condemn the attacks by Hamas on southern Israel. facts did not bother him . Well, he works for an organization that his goal is to distort them.
When Driimn caught editing the value of Goldstone, he says self trying to be very careful and keep on the net ... anything controversial discussion course will advance. " Course. He ran an edit war , not necessarily successful, the value of the New Israel Fund. Value is the value of Mikis Theodorakis Greek composer, who was accused of anti-Semitism, and put words in his mouth himself, that is, Theodorakis, anti-Semitic. Editor corrected as far as is known, Theodorakis never said that. Driimn hastened to admit the correction of the mistake "of his .
Other shtick, Driimn tried to remove the words of one of the organizers of the flotilla second value, arguing that they are not established. Editor brings another trusted source, and warns him that if he continues to deal with the value, he would be charged with vandalism . Dumb exercise, he insists on the fact that the Ministries of the image are in West Jerusalem - the word "Jerusalem" is not sufficient for him - had been replaced because it is important that organizations working for the residents of East Jerusalem are still holding office in West Jerusalem. "
Sometimes, Driimn goes directly sabotage. trying to remove quick action the value of artists against apartheid, and failed . About the BDS movement, he insists on pushing odd remark that all kinds Mforstmim Level C Air Base visited a delegation celebrities in 2012. When asked how the hell it has to do so, he answers as: these are celebrities who boycotted Israel, they have shown they can come, as opposed to those mentioned elsewhere that showed they did not come. " Driimn removes the reference to Israel Eldad (Scheib), a leader of Lehi, a terrorist , as well as his involvement in the murder of Bernadotte, the reference texts claim is faint Lshiib. is lying, and is really bad at it .
One of his arguments is that those who do not live in Israel will find it difficult to understand it: There musician named David Driimn. Our Ldriimn was very important to emphasize the religion of Driimn musician is Judaism. It brought him the ire of one of the other editors, the article notes referenced Driimon editor, musician Driimn explicitly says he is not religious. Driimon season snapped musician described himself as a Jew and it does not matter in terms of Jewish identity if you are devout in your religion or not . He states that the category of "Jewish religion" applies to all Jews, not just religious ones - in contrast, he admits, the rules of Wikipedia. Others tell him that if he wants someone to be tagged as a Jew, he must be a religion, not a Jew by birth. Driimn insists to continue with this stupid war.
So what do we have here? Professional falsifier, who writes under a pseudonym for an organization that calling him "controversial" would be a very big discount, trying to divert the facts - most absurdly, almost always clumsily and bluntly - to fit the ideology of the organization paying him. That organization its mandate is to whine that other groups do not present the truth as it insists it is.
So if reality does not straighten up as it should align, if it has - we returned Kolber - known liberal bias, what remains is to remodel it. With lies, dishonesty, trickery. Hasbara: Turns out it's a dangerous drug.

Israeli Wiki hackers help out ‘the family’ at Hackathon

Apps and bug fixes developed in Israel will eventually help Wiki users around the world, says the head of Wikipedia Israel
The Times of Israel, 29 December 2013 link
It takes a village – a global village, that is – to keep the wiki world going, and Israel is doing its share to ensure that the world of Wikimedia hums along. Wikipedia, of course, is the best-known product of the Wikimedia Foundation, and Wikimedia Israel runs the Hebrew-language Israeli Wikipedia site, and last week, dozens of Wikimedia volunteers gathered at Google’s Tel Aviv development center in order to help hammer out some Wiki bugs, and develop what could possibly be the next big thing in Wiki apps. [...] “Participants in the Hackathon, which went on for about 12 hours, helped to fix bugs in Wikipedia, improving the user experience for information seekers all over the world,” said Itzik Edri, Chairperson of Wikimedia Israel. “They also began development of several cool apps and services that we hope will in the future become a part of the Wikimedia family worldwide.”
Several of those apps and services are built on a new Wikipedia feature – GPS coordinates, which have been added to many Wiki entries for geographical sites around the world. Among the apps developed at the Hackathon was one that looks for interesting sites nearby the one you are checking out. For example, if a user were looking at the Wiki entry for the Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv, the app would search Wikipedia for other sites with nearby GPS coordinates and display them. [....] The bug fixes developed at the Hackathon will get inserted into the Wiki system right away; the apps are still under development, said Edri. “This is the second Hackathon we’ve run, and the apps this time are far more sophisticated than the ones from the first event several months ago. We have asked all the hackers to continue to develop their apps, and we have high hopes that some of the apps developed by Israeli Wiki volunteers will join the ‘Wiki family’ for use worldwide.”

If you don't think it's "that bad", here's a little illustration. Go to Google Translate, put in "he.wikipedia.org", and translate from Hebrew to English. Then put the word "פלסטינה" (Palestine) in the search box and hit return, and look at some of the resulting articles. Items like "Arab conquest of the Land of Israel" or "War of Independence" should give you some idea. Plus articles about British people involved in the Arab revolt against the Ottomans, like Stewart Francis Newcombe or T.E. Lawrence, tend to be very negative. With only 135,000 articles at present, the Hebrew Wikipedia is either very well-run and well-disciplined, and/or hopelessly bigoted against Arabs and Palestinians, depending on who is being asked.
Quote: "You might like the Hebrew Wikipedia. They have a "Parliament" with policy votes decided by a 60 or 65% majority, I don't remember which. AFDs are also essentially votes with a separate section for discussion if needed. Some of the policies on Hebrew Wikipedia are annoying, but at least they have a functioning system for making policy, and I dare say it's a happier place in general than English Wikipedia."
Quote: "Most minor-language Wikipedias are chock full of polemic screeds, making the English Wikipedia look like a paragon of neutrality and editorial restraint. The unrestrained nationalism of several of the eastern European language wikis is especially noticeable, and the Hebrew wiki's unabashed pro-Zionist, anti-Palestine politics are equally well-known. These political biases invariably affect decisions on whether or not a given source is "reliable" enough to "verify" something."
Quote: "The problem with democracy on contents is that it can be used to enforce cultural biases. Just think how the Hebrew, English, Russian and Arabic Wikipedias are likely to be positioned on the spectrum of opinions on the Israel-Palestine conflict."
Quote: "The Hebrew Wikipedia is hopelessly biased in its coverage of Israel and all matters related to Islam (surprise, that) and has been known to enforce opinion orthodoxy on its editors as well. "
And the one about Yassir Arafat (יאסר ערפאת), hoo boy.
Personal life
Little is known about the personal life of Arafat. For decades, Arafat refused to marry, claiming he was "married to the Palestinian revolution." Ion Mihai Ftz'fh , Oriana Fallaci and others said he was a homosexual [14] . On July 17, 1990 he married Suha Tawil, a Palestinian family that Christian is known, which is converted to Islam for him. Arafat was at their wedding 61 years old, while Soha was 27 years old. Two born on July 24, 1995 a daughter named Zhwa, after Arafat's mother died when he was four. Zhwa was born in Paris , the city of her mother's favorite. Certain period Suha and her daughter lived in Gaza, but in 2001 returned to Paris.
Arafat considered a very wealthy man. His personal fortune is estimated by various factors billions of dollars. But it is very difficult to calculate, since it exists in secret accounts. According to the IMF , Arafat moved his accounts funded by the Palestinian Authority from 1995 - 2000 897.6 million dollars . However much of these funds were probably used "POS B" of the Palestinian Authority to bypass the supervision of her donor money.
Reliability
Arafat's credibility was questioned many times. For example, after the attack at Beit Lid junction at 1995 which killed 22 people, Arafat repeated dozens of times a valid claim that the attack was carried out in collaboration with the Israeli security forces, and argued that even led to amputation of his meeting with Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin . After the attack in Netanya on 1999 Arafat claimed that these rivalries between criminals. His other claim was in the Knesset Israel hangs a map of the Levant and beneath stated that Israel's borders stretching what the Nile to the Euphrates . He also stated in his speech that the Israeli flag blue lines represent the boundaries of Israel from the Euphrates to the Nile. Also figure on the back of the coin 10 Agora Dima Arafat shows the limits of the Euphrates and the Nile. After publicly supported by Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War, he later claimed that it never happened [15] .

Second annual event to crowdsource Israel's hi-tech professionals held Thursday, to improve Wikimedia accessibility for Hebrew speakers
Arutz Sheva, 29 December 2013 link
Wikimedia Israel:Eighty computer professionals gathered in Tel Aviv at week's end, for a noble purpose: to improve the accessibility of Wikimedia - the free content giant behind Wikipedia - for Hebrew speakers worldwide.
The event, dubbed a "Hackathon," which began at 10:00 a.m. Thursday and lasted 11 hours, was held in the Electra Tower in Tel Aviv. The participants included independent programmers, hobbyists, hi-tech professionals, computer specialists from Israeli academia, IDF personnel and regular Wikipedia users. [...]
Amir Aharoni and Oren Buchman, Development Managers for Wikimedia Israel, spoke to Arutz Sheva at the event. "Here, we see people who want to give something back to Wikipedia - some of their knowledge or talent," Buchman stated. Some of the new projects are extensive, Aharoni explained. While the Wikipedia community worldwide relies on thousands of ordinary people to edit the site daily, more technical projects - e.g. to introduce a new software system - need expert programming. "We need people to come in and put in what they see is problematic and fix it," he explained.

Wikipedia Editing Courses Launched by Group promoting NPOV
This just shows how impossible it is to achieve NPOV. Here is a group of people trying to, as they see it in good faith, advance NPOV and counteract bias.

The defining moment in the video, which demonstrates the essential hopelessness of NPOV when it comes to any group of activist editors, is the following:
We want to be the guys who influence what is written there, how it's written, and to make sure that it's balanced, and, uh, Zionist in nature.

This is certainly one of the problems of the NPOV concept. Most activists hold the firm conviction that they are right and that their opposition is wrong. Furthermore, even to acknowledge that the opposition's position has any support of any sort is to betray one's own cause, which cannot be accepted. While I'm a firm believer in the position that there is no such thing as "the neutral point of view" except possibly as an unreachable asymptote, I do believe that it's possible to comparatively evaluate various presentations as more or less neutral. And in this regard, it's unreasonable to even expect activists to even try to be neutral, as doing so is asking them to betray their own convictions.
I am reminded of the difference, from my legal writing class in law school, between a legal memorandum (a neutral informative presentation of the facts of a case and of the law that governs it, for internal use only) and a brief (a wholly non-neutral persuasive argument for why an arbiter must necessarily rule in favor of one's client). A memorandum is used to help identifies areas where a case is strong and where it is weak, in order to develop a legal strategy that yields the best chance of achieving whatever goals the client has, and to enable the lead attorney to advise the client as to their likelihood of success using different strategic options. As such, it is important not to downplay or minimize arguments against the client's position, since those will have to be neutralized in order to achieve those results. A brief, on the other hand, must also acknowledge arguments opposing the client's position, but it does so for the express purpose of dismissing them. Encyclopedia articles should be more like memoranda, but in practice on Wikipedia they end up being more like briefs.

Editing Wikipedia for Zion
I believe there is at least one other thread on this site discussing organized Wikipedia editing by Zionists. Apparently, the following describes a new development.

Haifa University launches course in pro-Israel propaganda
Mid East Monitor, 15 April 2014 link
Ambassadors OnlineThe University of Haifa has launched an academic course to combat the online "delegitimization of Israel", in what it claims to be a "first" for academia. In a press release dated 30 March, the University proudly describes the four credit course, offered by the Department of Multi-Disciplinary Studies, as preparing "students to be unofficial 'ambassadors' for Israel on the Internet". In the University press release, programme instructor Prof. Eli Avraram cites Israeli Apartheid Week as an example of the kind of "phenomenon" students are taught to "fight", describing the annual, globally-observed event "an expression of pure anti-Semitism" (IAW also features in this promotional video for the programme).
The 'Ambassadors Online' course began life as an extra-curricular project, before its 'upgrade' to the level of "a full academic course" contributing credits towards a student's degree. According to the University, "achievements" by students to date have included "an operation room that propagated the reality in Israel during the military operation Pillar of Defense", initiating "propaganda delegations abroad", and creating "viral memes" (including in support of Scarlett Johansson).
The University notes praise for 'Ambassadors Online' by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose officials have instructed students on how "to use social networking sites to defend government policies". Other elements have included "writing Wikipedia entries, publicizing hasbara (public diplomacy) talking points and confronting anti-Israel activists in online chat rooms". The project is described on its own website as "a joint partnership of several academic and student offices", including the Dean of Students Office and Haifa University Student Union. The programme works "together with" relevant Israeli government ministries, as well as established lobby groups like StandWithUs and the Israel on Campus Coalition.
Recent lectures, as shared on the programme's Facebook page, have featured former spokesperson IDF Colonel (res) Miri Eisen speaking about narratives, and the University of Haifa's Student Dean, Prof. Hanan Alexander, asking "when does criticism of Israel become anti-Semitism?" Participants have also previously heard from the Foreign Ministry about "creative energy" rebranding strategies that focus on "start-ups" and "the arts". [...] Last August, it was reported that the Prime Minister's Office would be setting up "a network of advocacy units in Israeli universities, operated by students". [...]

As opposed to say straight PETA propaganda on animal welfare. So no, it's unlikely to balance.
Did you know that if you toss a coin 100 times, you're more likely to get 45 heads and 55 tails/55 heads and 45 tails (i.e. a significant bias one way or the other) than 50 heads and 50 tails (the elusive NPOV)?

Arabs outdone? Israeli foundation heaps $1m on Jimbo
Good thing Jimbo picked that Israeli woman to handle his "Jimbo Wales Foundation". Seems that the PR gravy train is really paying off nicely for that ol' weasel this year.

No surprise that a previous winner was Tony Blair. Jimbo's making a good chunk of change just following Blair's consultancy wherever it has dipped its dirty hands.Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is among the winners of this year's Dan David Prize for scientific, technological and cultural accomplishments.
The Dan David Foundation awards six $1 million prizes annually in three categories: past, present and future.
The prize is named after the late philanthropist Dan David and administered by Tel Aviv University. On Tuesday it announced the winners for 2015.

Makes me wonder what the Muslim world will think of Jimbo as he aligns himself overtly with Jewish interests.

Speaking of the Dan David Prize (T-H-L), a winner in 2004 was Stanford's William Newsome, for his work in visual perception and optoelectronics.
I wonder who started the Wikipedia article about the prize, in 2004? Some IP address, 171.65.23.212 (T-C-L). I'm sure it's just a coincidence that it's owned by Stanford University, and that it also edited Wikipedia about photostimulation (T-H-L) and Vestibulo–ocular reflex (T-H-L). Nothing wrong with helping Wikipedia to document a major award that you just won, right?

Probably much the same as they think of Blair, as Wales seems to be on his way to become a carbon copy of him. (As mentioned earlier, Israel and the various Arab dictators have a common enemy.)Vigilant wrote:Makes me wonder what the Muslim world will think of Jimbo as he aligns himself overtly with Jewish interests.

Next, Jimbo Wales would claim that Wales is named after him.

Tel Aviv University has quite a few Muslim students and lecturers. It wouldn't surprise me if it has more female Muslim students than can be found in the whole of the Gulf kingdoms, though no doubt the rulers of said kingdoms would consider that a negative point.Vigilant wrote:Makes me wonder what the Muslim world will think of Jimbo as he aligns himself overtly with Jewish interests.

If you're wondering how he reconciles taking money from both the UAE and a foundation in Israel, he's got that covered:
Of course, the Jimmy Wales Foundation thus far has done absolutely nothing of public visibility, other than create a typographically-challenged Twitter account. When given a substantial cash prize from the UAE, he decided to channel it toward a foundation focused on furthering freedom of information rather than keep or return the money from an unsavory government. The full interview with Wales will be in tomorrow’s Jerusalem Post.

Of course, Jimbo is overtly aligned with Kazakhstan, which is overwhelmingly Muslim.Vigilant wrote:Makes me wonder what the Muslim world will think of Jimbo as he aligns himself overtly with Jewish interests.

I would say, more precisely, that Jimmy is aligned with $$$/work density. The Adversary wrote:Jimbo is aligned with $$$$$$, wherever it is.Poetlister wrote:Of course, Jimbo is overtly aligned with Kazakhstan, which is overwhelmingly Muslim.Vigilant wrote:Makes me wonder what the Muslim world will think of Jimbo as he aligns himself overtly with Jewish interests.
He's financially set now, but almost none of it is from hard work.
He's a grifter in the truest sense of the word.

During Wikipedia's early days, he openly supported WP's pro-Israel editing cabal. I wonder if some of those guys had some influence into getting him this award?

Re: Arabs outdone? Israeli foundation heaps $1m on Jimbo
I was recently reminded of why Arbcom was started up (by the Holy Jimbo) originally: it was because of their first pro-Israel extremist, RK (T-C-L), fighting with others.Cla68 wrote:During Wikipedia's early days, he openly supported WP's pro-Israel editing cabal. On October 1, 2003, RK threw a temper tantrum on the wiki and on the WikiEn-1 mailing list. This was apparently the result of a misunderstanding. In a fit of rage, RK vandalized the userpages of MyRedDice, Angela, and Louis Kyu Won Ryu. When Eloquence commanded RK to stop, RK vandalized Eloquence's user page as well. Eloquence wasn't amused and blocked RK's account.
The story doesn't end there, however. The incidence led to an argument about bans, and Eloquence suggested a Wikiquette committee. Jimbo Wales liked Eloquence's idea and started a discussion about it. During the discussion, Alex756 suggested two different approaches to resolving conflicts: mediation and arbitration. On October 3, 2003, Jimbo Wales asked for volunteers for a Mediation Committee (MedCom) and an Arbitration Committee (ArbCom). On October 7th, Alex756 published Wikipedia:Mediation_and_Arbitration_(proposal) at the request of another user.
Meanwhile, EntmootsOfTrolls (aka 142) hijacked Eloquence's "User:Mediator" idea:

I think it's highly unlikely that any of them has that sort of influence.Cla68 wrote:During Wikipedia's early days, he openly supported WP's pro-Israel editing cabal. I wonder if some of those guys had some influence into getting him this award?

The author of that article, Omer Benjakob, is apparently studying the "philosophy of science of Wikipedia" at Tel Aviv University. I can think of one organization that might hire someone with such a degree background.

That depends on what conclusions he reaches. He might make himself unpopular with a certain organisation if his researches lead to "wrong" conclusions.thekohser wrote:The author of that article, Omer Benjakob, is apparently studying the "philosophy of science of Wikipedia" at Tel Aviv University. Jerusalem Battle Now Plays Out on Wikipedia
Following Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Jerusalem is Israel’s capital on the English and Hebrew Wikipedia, but the Palestinians' capital in Arabic.
