"Dcoetzee" who seems to be driving the project (got a $5,000 Wikimedia Foundation grant to do it) has occasionally attracted the interest of contributors here.

You may recall that he was an advocate for child pornography fan Beta M continuing to edit Wikipedia projects (which are of course filled with children).
I was the one who unblocked the user. At the time I was not aware of the evidence Geni presented in this thread, and although I don't think it's grounds for an immediate block, I think it is a concern when the user attempts to directly modify draft policies to reflect their views, etc. In light of their conflict of interest, I would advice them to stick to discussion pages when involved in policy discussions related to child pornography, and to avoid linking offsite resources related to advocacy. I have no problem with them participating in relevant deletion requests, since DRs are closed by admins and a user's opinion there is weighed only according to its merit (and moreover, their opinions expressed thus far in DRs have been consistent with policy and the law). I believe if the user continues to be conscientious about acting in accordance with policy and the law, the need to block them will not arise. However, we should keep an eye on them, and warn them promptly if they begin to engage in any form of advocacy. Dcoetzee (talk) 21:54, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
The long thread on Beta M at Wikedia Review is here. We also had a thread here discussing the strange contortions that investigation into his activities yielded at Wikimedia Commons.

So editing an encyclopedia is just like playing a video game, "an interstellar trek full of real skills, tips, tools, tricks, helpers, sources, rewards, and support". link

To earn their rewards, the players are required to be "social": in the Wikipedia Adventure's scoring system social activity is just as important as editing skills and knowledge of policy. The whole game is about hanging out in "The Adventure Lounge", where ignorant and innocent child-editors can meet and rendezvous with tools, tricks, and helpers.

Although the game's developer thinks that it will recruit "non-technical editors (especially women and other underrepresented demographics)", nobody above the age of seven -- no, not even women -- would be interested in playing such a crappy video game

Fortunately, it has now been nominated for deletion: link
Targeting little kids is the last thing Wikipedia should be doing, particularly when Dcoetzee and Demiurge1000 are in positions of authority. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 18:54, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

The game was designed to attract a diverse college-aged demographic. The content of the script covers editing, policy, and social skills that all editors need, but especially new ones. It's not a kid's, game although they could probably learn from it better than they do now with our current introductory material. Please read the project page at WP:TWA. And when it's ready for testing, play it through once and tell me what you think. Please remember one thing, this project is for the many potential great editors who struggle to currently participate, despite their best intentions. We're better off as a community to teach them properly and have their contributions. Ocaasi t | c 19:01, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

It's at a 3-4th grade reading level. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 19:06, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Did he really say "college-age demographic"? Incredible.

I mean, sure, college students these days are no great shakes in the intellect and maturity departments, but come on. This is a joke, and in poor taste at that.

A better alternative would be to treat Wikipedia as a WP:MMORPG (T-H-L) as explained on that page. The game described actually sounds fun, unlike the crap spewed at the Wikipedia Adventure.

PS: Demigurge1000 was caught stating on the ArcticKangaroo ANI that all minors should not be banned. I agree in principle (though ArcticKangaroo is nothing more than a drama llama hiding behind his age to deliberately misunderstand Wikipedia licensing), but coming from a creep like Demigurge I stand afraid.

That's an insult to vampires.

In Kindred: The Embraced (T-H-L), an orphanage-prowling vampire was stopped by the Nosferatu Daedalus (who---like U.S. prisoners---did not fuck around with child predators).

At least vampires, in Conversation with a Vampire and Kindred, have laws against converting children---again showing the wisdom and integrity of vampires in comparison to Wikipedia, with its The Wikipedia Adventure (T-H-L)....

Are these people brain damaged?
Hi Ocaasi.

Been a while, sorry I didn't help out that much with the Wikipedia Adventure. I personally think you've done a great job and should be really proud of the work you've done. What's more, the interface is extraordinary, I had no idea something like that could be integrated into the encyclopedia.

Looking at the MfD, the biggest issue people seem to be coming up with is the MMORPG issues (something I mentioned when we were thinking about names). Similarly, the character and the "space" theme are very cartoony, and seem to appeal primarily to demographics that we already have. I know I preferred the owl back when that was suggested, because it was "cute enough" but still looked professional.

I was just wondering how hard a rebrand would be at this point in time? Looking at some non-MMOPRG names (dropping things like "adventure" or "quest" and most importantly "play")? WormTT(talk) 10:07, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Oh... and I really don't like the fictional character's name. User:WillKomen. I read it instantly as a spoonerism for KillWomen. WormTT(talk) 10:16, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

WTT, hey, been a while! Thanks for your feedback, it's really heartwarming.

As for the MMORPG issue and the theme, I have a few thoughts. First off is that this approach is not going to work for everyone. Second, we don't know who it will work for or won't because no one has tested it and we have no data.

It's entirely possible that the owl would be a better guide than the astronaut , or that a library different theme would be more conducive to the editors we want to attract than a space theme. I do want to say that the design is not space as in star trek, but space as in the vast cosmos, reflective of our inspiringly ambitious mission. I do hope the design will appeal to non-gamer types because it's friendly and inviting; my hunch is also that it will not turn off serious thinkers because the content in the game is very much consistent with our other help/introductory/onboarding materials. So it's a tone issue, and tone issues are going to be subjective, at least until we have some data and can test variations.

At this point the design is set for round 1. A good amount of work went into the them and it wouldn't be possible to change course. However that's not to say that there couldn't be many iterations on tour content and design. Indeed, that's one of the great aspects of Guided Tours--it's completely rebrandable and recyclable.

User:WillKomen is just a play on wilkomen, the german word for Welcome. I see your point that people could switch letters and read something dark into it, and will see if this is a concern others have. It'd be a very easy fix.

You may wish to consult my statement on David Craven / Worm That Turned (T-C-L)'s harassment (collaborating with Demiurge1000):
Evidence [of Worm That Turned's harassment of Kiefer.Wolfowitz] has been already referenced at
Nick (T-C-L) discussed the mis-use of my block log in this ordeal on WTT's talk page, on which I have also commented; there Nick forgot to mention that WTT was one of the first to oppose a recent block for a WO comment on Ironholds as being against policy, so his misuse of that block here is especially egregious.

WTT has not retracted his false accusation in his RfC/U against me that I removed material from Penn Kemble (T-H-L) for political reasons, despite repeated requests. This is a crystal clear perjury. A review of the RfC/U shows further mendacity. Is it only in The Lincoln Lawyer that judges disallow testimony by perjurers?
Worm That Turned is a dull mixture of Newyorkbrad (T-C-L) and Kurtis (T-C-L) (a wind-up Arbitrator-wannabe nearly as dumb as Beeblebrox), although he morphs into a dishonest attack-administrator when Demiurge1000 has a conflict. You can see that he is an obedient poodle for Demiurge1000 in his conflicts with me.

The above evidence suggests that Dave Craven does have years of collaboration by email with Demiurge1000, though I don't think he shares all of Demiurge1000's interests. He does take initiative in trying to censor discussion of Demiurge1000 even here, for reasons that he has yet to divulge.
