Jim Hawkins to the white courtesy phone, please...
Lynn Parsons (T-H-L), British DJ and radio presenter, has posted a message on WP asking for her article to be deleted. It is now at AfD and looks to be heading for deletion. Part of the issue -- stop me if you've already heard this one -- appears to have been editwarring over her date of birth. Meanwhile, Jim Hawkins (radio presenter) (T-H-L) continues to exist...

This is a real turn-up for the books! Ms Parsons is surely notable by the usual WP standards, and an edit war is scarcely a reason to delete an article or we'd be down to well below a million articles. And since when does a desire not to have a BLP carry much weight? Usually, it's a reason for people to vote keep (not censored! NPOV!)
Or is it the old "one rule for glamorous brunettes ..." business?

Nah, it's swinging the other way now. Simply a case of a few relatively sane people arriving to the party slightly before the demented demographic of the AfD mob could swarm in.Willbeheard wrote:This is a real turn-up for the books! I doubt Jimmy would dare to try to rescue the glamorous brunette in distress given the new family situation, but perhaps we might be able to spot the minions at work...

Perhaps. But I don't approve of public figures such as Lynn Parsons and Jim Hawkins being allowed absolute control over their own publicity. And nor is it entirely clear to me why anyone would be so easily persuaded that some anonymous IP is who (s)he claims to be.EricBarbour wrote:And who's the first to vote to keep? Malleus. I've never heard my "mom" say that, but I've made my position quite clear with both the Lynn Parsons and Jim Hawkins cases. I really don't care what anyone else thinks; they can make their own minds up for themselves, with whatever resources they can bring to bear on the question.TungstenCarbide wrote:That's exactly what your mom said!Malleus wrote:Then please feel free to do so.

On the other hand, it seems pretty obvious that the subject's request is coloring your decision to keep the article. Claiming that a bio sourced to 2 name-drops in the Guardian, some routine trade magazine blurbs and a BBC bio "clearly meets the general notability guidelines" is quite a whopper of a lie.

But that's not my position, and neither is your representation of the available third-party sources accurate. That the article ought to be improved is unquestionably true, but the AfD isn't a vote on improvement, it's a vote on deletion.Tarc wrote:TC rarely has an original thought here on much of anything. Bloody simple, really. Just change the shithead guidelines so that there are no articles on Z-list celebrities (which is what she is). If Wikipedia were a real encyclopedia, instead of a steaming pile of crap, that's exactly what would happen.

Wow. Sad and delusional comes to mind. Why would you want to put your whole life on Wikipedia? And what a nice vanity biography she's got on her user page, including pictures of her children who will probably hate her for the rest of eternity for doing this to them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Jeanne boleyn" seems anything but interesting.Tarc wrote: I especially liked this one;

Maybe that's why she's so hell-bent on making life difficult for notable people.
Just. Wrong.

Dear Lord. I was watching the MLB network in a bar during the World Series a few weeks ago. They were going through some celebrities and which team they were rooting for. They got to Detroiter Kristen Bell. They showed this picture, with a giant credit underneath it for David Shankbone. He must have a friend that works there or something.lilburne wrote:One can tell a genuine Shankbone without any attribution.Retrospect wrote:Hey, no fair! Indeed.
