Pleasant though it may be to go on

... about how EU copyright is going to take down WP, turning every damn thread here into someone's unconvincing lectures on the subject, it has gotten incredibly boring. Can we talk about something else, and not about EU copyright?

I just checked WP:ANI (T-H-L), and there's a guy calling himself Thor's Axe (T-C-L) who's been accused of edit warring over the Transition from Ming to Qing (T-H-L). I realize it's not the same Ming, but apparently there is some ancient Chinese sex involved.

I also checked WP:BLPN (T-H-L) and learned that Charles Aznavour died yesterday, which is unfortunate. There have been about 200 edits to his article since then... I know that's not unusual for a celebrity, but it just seems kind of ghoulish to me.

Meanwhile, on WP:COIN (T-H-L), the usual depressing display of hypocrisy.

I'll keep digging, but it looks like a slow news day over there.

Ah yes, good thinking there. I was thinking we should write something up for the blog about how the WMF has been trying to pull the ol' switcheroo on the gender-gap conversation, redefining it as a problem of biographies about women (the percentage of which they can increase using edit-a-thons and AI trickery) as opposed to what it actually is, namely the 84% vs. 16% gender disparity among WP users. And like this survey says, that hasn't changed over the past year at all.

To be fair, they did put that almost at the top of the report, so it'll be interesting to see if they do any press releases or other PR on this. It's been out for about a month, at least in draft form, but it may still be too early to tell.

Apparently there also hasn't been any change in the percentage of people who claim they've "experienced harassment" on WMF projects, so maybe the ol' Trust and Safety Manager isn't quite getting it done either.

Interesting new thread at WP:ANI:
...
The Bengali Wikipedia community has recently obtained evidence that Hasive (T-C-L) was paid BDT 1.5 million (about $18,000) by the government of Bangladesh to write Wikipedia articles about every Bangladeshi parliamentarian (source from gov site 1, 2).
...
I suspect, based on the sorts of edits he has been making on the English Wikipedia, that his work here is also being treated as part of his work writing articles on Bengali Wikipedia about parliamentarians.
...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... ser:Hasive

Hasive has had his admin rights removed and been blocked by Bengali Wikipedia, has resigned from the Wikimedia Bangladesh board, and had his Wikimedia Bangladesh membership cancelled. Google Translate seems to make a reasonable job of the Bengali Wikipedia blocking discussion, but it will be interesting to see how he responds on en.wikipedia. His defence seems to be that the payment was for more general internet work, rather than for Wikipedia editing, though if I understand it right he seems to have been expressly described as a 'Wikipedia administrator' in documents concerning payment.
