Wikipedia Sucks email spam
If you have received invitations by email to join Wikipedia Sucks now, chances are they are part of a mass-mailing campaign by Bbb23sucks.

Is there a record on who owns the most sockpuppet accounts in Wikipedia? Because I have a hunch that if the mass email spam campaign continues to the next day he stands a real chance of breaking the record.

Can he put an email beacon in that email to determine and geolocate recipients’ IP addresses? I’ve got to think the WMF / MediaWiki has made this impossible

I created well over a thousand, but there's no doubt that I'm nowhere near the top. Just look at someone like ISCHEKA or Grawp. They probably have well into the 10,000 of accounts. And spambots farms, which could have upwards of 100,000s.Ognistysztorm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 6:26 pmIs there a record on who owns the most sockpuppet accounts in Wikipedia? I assume that in this case "AMA" stands for "against medical advice" because your psychiatrist told you that this behavior is not healthy.

Can one simply make an account and send out a million emails?
I've never tested it.

No. It's limited to five per day for non-autoconfirm users. However, I have a script that can automatically create thousands of accounts, solve the captchas, confirm their email addresses, and send out the emails.

Pro tip: If you want to pretend that you're me, don't claim that you're from Manchester on your user page when it is well known here that that is definitely not where I am from. Well, my question concerned your history on Wikipedia, not so much who you are elsewhere on the internet. Are you saying you have an account and an identity at Wikipediocracy, but have had none at Wikipedia before creating this account? Really? Bishonen | tålk 09:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC).
Yes. Many users of WPO have never had Wikipedia accounts. I have made a few minor edits as an IP, but this is my first account. Ovsk (talk) 09:33, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
It might be worth mentioning that there is a WPO user called "OvskMendov1" who claims responsibility for the recent Wikipedia Sucks Joe job. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:35, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Who is this?
Re: Wikipedia Sucks email spam
They don't want you to know. Sometimes when they lock an account, there will be several other accounts locked at the same time with a # associated with it so you know it's the same person. For example, #00021321 is Projects, also known as George Reeves Person. In this case, the wmf have never used #60627 in their logs before, so it's hard to tell.Ron Lybonly wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 3:42 amHow do you determine what the main user name is for "Globally banned user: #60627"

On the plus side, 1700 socks does kind of make a mockery of their captcha

Is anyone in touch with Eric Barbour? Did Sucks host kick them off due to the spam? I have no doubt that one or two individual editors complained and I can see an admin sending them a note, but I wonder if WMF Legal got involved?
Eric, if you're reading, sorry that this happened. I know I never say anything nice about Sucks, but it, well, sucks that this happened to you because someone decided it would be a good idea to spam people.

Not as far as I know, at least it wasn't blocked immediately prior to the site going down. I suppose it might be a UK IP thing, if the site's not set up properly.*
*Just checked with a VPN, and yes, it's my IP and not just the UK - UK VPN IPs seem fine. My registration there is fine, and not banned, blocked or anything - it's just the IP. Oh well.
