Well, institutions often do take the name of large donors.

How about renaming a biography instead? Noel Skum (T-H-L) anyone?

He should start his own wiki and call it Xpedia. And then get sued, again.

Why bother paying, why not just name his next kid that? It’s not like it’d be much stupider than the other names he’s come up with.

How about, Elon, you pay enough money so that you are reduced to working at McDonald's and we never have to hear fom you again? That would be worth it.

Wikipedia should do what my uncle did 70-75 years ago.

As a young man he grew a moustache and my grandmother was horrified. She offered him £5 - a decent amount of money in those days - to shave it off. So he did. He regrew it again after she had given him the money.

I had the same thought. The only question is if Musk is short-sighted enough to not get it in writing that it can never be changed back. The available evidence suggests that he is.

I used to run a small business. I worked there for a while, then bought out the owner. The sales contract specified that he could neither found nor work for a directly competing business for a period of five years. One of my competitors sold his business some time after that, and there was no such clause, he was back competing against his own old business in about six months, which screwed up everyone's share of the market. Hilariously, I eventually sold my business as well, to the same guy, and he still did not include that in the sales agreement. He had nothing to worry about in my case, but you'd think a person would learn from that experience.

Musk is calling for a one-year minimum.

The Guardian: Why is Elon Musk attacking Wikipedia? Because its very existence offends him
So, the sight of Elon Musk charging towards Wikipedia with his trademark guile and delicacy was so predictable that it was almost relaxing. He saw a collective resource that people prized and he wanted to hurt it. Why does Wales even need any money to run Wikipedia in the first place, he wondered on Sunday. You could fit the entire thing on your phone, he claimed. Eleven minutes later, he offered $1bn if it would change its name to Dickipedia.

I noticed the following in the article:
The civic tech expert Ed Saperia used as his parable the difference between Wikipedia and Facebook. Jimmy Wales’s big experiment, which started life in 1999 as Nupedia, has created an open-source collection of human knowledge in hundreds of languages that is essentially trustworthy. If a mistake creeps in through the gates of human generosity, it gets corrected in the same way. If malicious actors try to slander their foes, the punishment is not cancellation, but more like lifelong ridicule, which is proportionate, given how long a slanderous person is likely to carry on doing ridiculous things. In other words, it is the best of humanity, all natural desire to help each other with cross-pollinated knowledge concentrated in one place.
Given Saperia's long association with Jimmy Wales - he's the fuckwit who managed to run up a deficit of the order of 100K when he was put in charge of WIkimania - he's hardly the most impartial of sources.

Someone should start a Village Pump discussion.

I would !vote support to changing Wikipedia's name to Dickipedia for one year iff a list of ten deserving charities is agreed to beforehand that will each receive $100 million. WMF does not need the money.

With that, I see only upsides.

There is zero chance the community can agree on 10 charities.

The idea isn't bad, but I think 100 ten million dollar donations, or 1000 million dollar donations would actually be easier, and less likely to ruin the charity that received the donation.

This is all too, um, adult of an explanation. He and Jimbo got in a spat and this is him retaliating in his usual preschool way. Elon is too out of it to even realize that Jimbo has nothing to do with wP other than travelling around and putting a public face on it as The Founder.

It reminds me of the guy who contacted Jimmy about BradV allegedly engaging in paid editing. He naturally assumed that Jimmy was totally in charge and would fire his employee Brad if another rich person asked him to. He couldn't have been more wrong about everything.

Also, it appears HuffPo already made Dikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_23/6#Dickipedia

We're just gonna gloss over the fact that despite that not being very much not how it works, the guy was less off on the Jimbo Wales part of the equation that you're insinuating here? Remember, Jimbo fell for it hook, line and sinker, and went in all guns blazing on Brad's talk page until several people (Including you!) went (Paraphrased) "Jimbo, buddy, this isn't only false, it's laughably false and you should be ashamed of yourself for biting on it."

Jimbo might've been an easy mark, but the only thing he had the power to do in that situation is what he did: make an ass of himself.

Smosh (T-H-L) is selling Dickipedia tshirts.

They will donate $5 to the wmf with every purchase, so you might want to consider making your own instead of buying from them if you want one.
