RIP - Wikipedia Editors Passed Away

Unread post by Poetlister » Sun May 03, 2020 8:53 pm

Two other deaths of Wikipedians:

Ronhjones (T-C-L), last April but Wikioedians have just found out. He was killed when his house burht down. He was a physical chemist with a few articles and patents to his name. I dealt with him a couple of times.

Dmitrismirnov (T-C-L), a Russian-born British composer. I came across him a few times on poetry articles and we got on very well.

Is this going to be a running thread? If so, maybe we should go with something simple and respectful like "RIP" as the thread title, which seems to be what people do on most (?) other forums.

I have to agree that the thread title is pretty tasteless.

My fault - I split it out to indicate that this was recent - and was too sleepy to be polite. I have fixed it.

What’s really tasteless is a death pool (T-H-L). I’ve never participated in one because I wouldn’t like to root for my picks to be called home. But if the members were from Wikipedia I’d probably make an exception. There’s enough shitbirds editing, gnoming, admining or Arbing that if any number of them stopped converting oxygen to carbon dioxide society wouldn’t miss them.

Even so, nearly all Wikipedia editors (other than bots) are human beings, even the Arbs. Some of them are quite nice when you meet them in the flesh, at least the British ones. (I don't think I've ever met an American Wikipedia editor in the flesh; maybe they're worse.)

Yes, and some Wikipedia critics are nice as well when you meet them. I still remember sitting and talking with Peter Damian and Andreas Kolbe (Jayen466 (T-C-L)) at Wikimania 2014 in London.

I see Andreas has been editing recently on the coronavirus topic.

I am not keeping up with goings on around Wikpedia at the moment (that and a number of other areas are taking a back seat in the current situation). I am hoping that I don't return to get bad news about those I know there...

"Peter Damian" still contributes on here occasionally (and is always very welcome ). Andreas hasn't logged in for nearly two years.
