The Ice Bucket Challenge's Wikipedia Page Has Been Hijacked
The Wire, 25 August 2014
linkhttp://www.thewire.com/global/2014/08/t ... ed/379111/[/link]
The Ice Bucket Challenge has succeeded in raising millions of dollars for ALS research. It has also spread the word to millions, as many who do not donate still post the video and nominate their friends. However, not everyone is all too thrilled with the challenge. It has faced criticism for wasting water and others have lashed out against those who post the video without donating. One Wikipedia editor took it to the next level, leaving this message in the "Criticism" section of the Ice Bucket Challenge page:
This screenshot was taken by The Wire at 5:51 p.m. on Monday, August 25th. At publishing time, the squared off section had not been removed. Update: at 6:05 p.m., the passage was removed. [...]

Why is it news when a site that allows anyone to edit lets anyone edit?

Presumably, some people imagine that people still find it funny.

Isn't there a policy against nonsense lists like this? And doesn't is say something about Wikipedian values that "fashion personalities" precede politicians?

Only seven days old, and already 170k bytes and 549 references. It won't last.

The notable Ice Bucket Challenge participants article is an untameable chimera. It needs to be merged or deleted (or trimmed down to requiring reliable secondary sources).
This article is much more ridiculous than those listed here:
Category:Lists of people by ideology (T-H-L). It is akin to having an article called
List of notable Twitter users (T-H-L).

More words. Surely better just to show them all:

I challenged Gizmo the Magwi to the Ice bucket challenge but some of my family and friends thought that was an ill conceived idea that would end terribly.

Much as I'd expect. It won't be easy to close; there will probably be a deletion review whatever happens.

So when does the 'Vandalize Wikipedia Challenge' begin, and which charity will it benefit?
St. Jude's Childrens Hospital?
We just need to get Colbert and Conan to kick it off on Saturday...

Oh Merciless One, it is a great day for the Wikipedia community. That list is so long and so indiscriminate that it deserves to be deleted. We all know that Wikipedia is not a catalogue of every single person with a blue link who dumped ice-cold water on their heads for ALS research, as much as we know that Wikipedia is not a catalogue of every single person with a blue link who has a Twitter account.
