I Can’t Wait to Read the Wikipedia Page for Midsommar

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Mar 16, 2019 7:28 pm

The teaser trailer for Hereditary director Ari Aster’s new movie, Midsommar, dropped today, much to the delight of horror fans everywhere. And after watching it, let me be the first to say: I can’t wait to read the Midsommar Wikipedia page.

Is there any way I’m seeing any more of this movie beyond the one minute and 39 seconds in this clip? Absolutely fucking not! But I am entirely desperate to know what happens, while also remaining aware that witnessing the actual plot play out on screen in front of me will short-circuit my brain and force me to sleep with the light on for anywhere between two months and 46 years. I’ll settle for the mild adrenaline rush of a plainly laid-out, point-by-point summation of the horrors at hand that I can read in three minutes while hoovering down my desk lunch.

Robert Pattinson used Wikipedia to get his role

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Apr 06, 2019 10:13 am

Before they met, "I read the Wikipedia on 'string theory' and tried to (rationalize) some reason why this character would not age because of spacetime," Pattinson says. "She hadn't heard that before and she loves romanticizing these kinds of ideas in physics. So it was my one card I had to play, and I was like, 'Wow, that actually worked.' "

How to get caught up on Game of Thrones

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Apr 13, 2019 5:04 pm

When in doubt, check Wikipedia or the Game of Thrones Wiki, both of which have extremely in-depth recaps of individual episodes and entire seasons. ... Wikipedia summaries. Wikipedia has comprehensive summaries of every episode, but the individual episode pages are super long. (If you had that kind of time, you’d just read the books, amirite?) You want the specific pages for each season, which give far more concise paragraph summaries of key events, perfect for skimming through to find out what you missed.

Avengers Endgame Spoilers

Avengers: Endgame premiered in Los Angeles at the Convention Center on April 22, but it won’t be released to a wide audience until Thursday night. That hasn’t stopped leaked footage from being taken down on Reddit last week, and today, it hasn’t stopped someone from putting a plot synopsis on Wikipedia.

Is 'Summer House' Renewed for Another Season?

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Jun 15, 2019 5:33 pm

Also, the Summer House Wikipedia page appears to be updated to accommodate season four. The page includes who will part of the main cast and perhaps who is getting cut this time too.

Who might be cut this year?

If indeed the clues lead to Summer House season four, some cast members may not return. The Wikipedia page shows that Lindsay Hubbard’s ex-boyfriend Everett Weston will no longer be a guest on the show.

Spiderman Plot Leaked on Wikipedia

Unread post by Poetlister » Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:12 am

Spiderman: Far From Home premiered in Hollywood at the TCL Chinese Theatre on June 26, but it won’t be released to a wide audience until next Thursday night. This means Marvel fans are a week out from seeing the end of Phase 3.

With several reviews already pouring in, somebody from the preview audiences has already posted plot details on Wikipedia. These are unofficial, but the last time a MCU plot was spoiled for Avengers: Endgame, the synopsis was pretty accurate.

Reading Wikipedia Summaries Of Movies And TV Shows

Unread post by Poetlister » Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:37 am

We live in a time of Too Much Culture. In 2018 alone, there were almost 500 scripted television series that aired (not to mention the countless unscripted shows) and more than 10,000 films released. ... That's why it's about time we just admit the truth: It's so much easier to scan Wikipedia summaries of all the new TV and movies and be done with it.

"The Irishman" contains few swear words

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:01 pm

Still, by my count, the total number of F-words comes in at a measly 136, nowhere near the number in The Wolf of Wall Street or even Casino or Goodfellas—422 and 300 F-words, respectively, at least according to Wikipedia’s “List of films that most frequently use the word fuck (T-H-L).” (Both entries cite the now-defunct FamilyMediaGuide.com.) The Irishman won’t even make Wikipedia’s chart.

There's already 'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' spoilers on Wikipedia

I was actually surprised Wikipedia didn't have the spoilers before it was officially released. Reviewers had already panned the movie before release.

My theory is that they are all children's movies as George Lucas explained. If you 8-14 y/o any time between 1977 and 1983, episodes IV-VI were great and the 30 something person waiting for episodes I-III was severely disappointed especially with jar-Jar. Same for those that 8-14 between 1997-2003. Now, those 30 somethings hate episodes VII-IX. Even Alec Guiness hated all the Star Wars movies and they made him rich. The acting and dialogue sucks and no adult questions why Mark Hamill/Carrie Fisher/Hayden Christensen never broke out beyond one the most profitable franchises ever. Don't know why anyone over 12 would care about plot spoilers. The film will undoubtedly be another homage film with plot mirrors to previous movies. 8-14 y/o kids will love it. Not sure they will love it more than Marvel.

Carrie Fisher made quite a few films other than Star Wars; a notable one was "Hannah and Her Sisters" with Woody Allen.

Hamill made appearances (even as a voice actor) in various media, some being as completely mainstream as The Simpsons and some being in a cult classic such as Dark Cloud 2 for the PlayStation 2.

Uncut Gems Has More F-Bombs Than Almost Any Other Movie

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Jan 04, 2020 6:42 pm

Wikipedia has been updated again, and Uncut Gems is listed as the fourth biggest F-bomb user in cinematic history. ... Wikipedia’s list has some ground rules -- it has to be an English language film with at least 150 spoken uses of the word (and its many derivatives), and it can’t be a pornographic film. Given those criteria, the only movies that currently beat Uncut Gems on the F-bomb front are Swearnet: The Movie, Fuck (a documentary about the word itself), and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Other movies that Uncut Gems is currently out F-ing include Summer of Sam, Nil by Mouth, Casino, Straight Outta Compton, Alpha Dog, and End of Watch.

Fast and Furious Fans Edit Han Actor's Wikipedia Page After New Trailer

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:47 pm

A fan makes a hilarious edit on Han Lue actor's Sung Kang's personal Wikipedia page after his surprising re-emergence in the brand new Fast 9 trailer ...

As elated as many Fast & Furious franchise fans are to see Kang back with the "family" in the Fast & Furious 9 trailer, it didn't long for people to point out how this poses some continuity issues. Han was supposedly killed by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) at the end of Tokyo Drift (which takes place between Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7). Given this, one fan decided to make fun of this glaring mystery by editing the actor's personal Wikipedia page to reflect his recent re-emergence in the F9 trailer. Snuck in between factual details like his Korean name and birthday, as well as his prominent role as member of the Fast saga, Han Lue, it also jokingly states that he's an "immortal being" in the film series.

The Black Widow April 24 Release Date is a Result of Wikipedia Vandalism

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:19 pm

This week Marvel fans around the internet are panicking when Google began showing an April 24, 2020 release date for Black Widow. After #BoycottFilmfare trends online, Filmfare Awards Wikipedia page vandalised

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:41 pm

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's 2019 film Gully Boy has been making headlines ever since it swept away 13 awards at the 65th Filmfare Awards held on February 15 in Guwahati, Assam. With the massive win, the Zoya Akhtar directorial surpassed Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black to become the film with the most number of Filmfare awards. While some people are absolutely rejoiced with film's massive win, there are many who feel that the film did not deserve so many awards. In fact, #BoycottFilmfare has been trending on Twitter since Sunday night and netizens are calling out the organisers for their 'biasness'.

Taking the rant a notch higher, a person vandalized the Wikipedia page of Filmfare Awards. Wikipedia pages, as you might already know, can be edited by anyone. The Wikipedia page of Filmfare Awards has an extensive list of awards. One of the sections is about the most awards for a single film. A user went to the Wikipedia page and added a remark in the 'Most awards for a single film' section. The list shows Gully Boy's name on the top and the user added "paid awards" in brackets next to the film's title.

Only fools and naval forces: why David Jason's Ghostboat is best forgotten

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Apr 04, 2020 10:30 am

What fascinated me most, though, was Wikipedia’s description of Ghostboat’s reception, offering only a terse: “The film was highly successful. Both ratings and reviews were excellent.” The first review I found was from the Observer, which called it “tripe”. Who was right? I had to find out. It turned out the Observer was right.
The Guardian

The article has now been amended to say "The film was not successful. Both ratings and reviews were very poor.[dubious – discuss]" Obviously, comments like either of these should not go into an article about a film, especially a current one, without adequate referencing.

Batwoman's Azrael Reveal Used a Wikipedia Entry

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat May 16, 2020 10:31 am

A tease involving Azrael from the penultimate episode of Batwoman was taken word-for-word from Wikipedia, even keeping a citation.

In this week's recent episode of Batwoman, "A Secret Kept From All The Rest," viewers were given a tease regarding the Arrowverse debut of the Avenging Angel, Azrael, with a translated page from the late Lucius Fox's journal mentioning the character and detailing important parts of his mythos. However, it turns out that the text used in the journal came from a part of Wikipedia's Batsuit article.

Twitter user MisterBatfleck posted a side-by-side comparison of the Wikipedia page and Batwoman's journal scene, showing the journal page to be a word-for-word copy of the section from the article, even including a citation.

Batwoman: Someone Updated Wallis Day's Wikipedia to Say She Was Cast

Unread post by Poetlister » Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:48 am

Last month, Batwoman fans got a pretty significant shocker, with the news that Ruby Rose will be stepping down from the series' titular role after one season. With the show's sophomore season expected to debut as early as January of 2021, fans have begun to speculate about who could end up playing Kate Kane/Batwoman. One prominent suggestion has been Wallis Day, an actress who previously portrayed Nyssa Vex on SYFY's Superman prequel, Krypton. Day has taken to social media multiple times now to reveal that she'd be willing to take on the role -- but it looks like fans have taken it a step further. Day's page on the Spanish version of Wikipedia was recently edited by a fan to have Batwoman listed among her filmography. While the edit has since been removed, Day acknowledged the move on Twitter, and seemed pretty amused by it.

I don't think they mean "titular role" (title without any real authority).

Shrek’s Wikipedia page is protected from public edits

Unread post by Poetlister » Tue Jun 01, 2021 3:51 pm

Wikipedia can be publicly edited by anyone. Well… most of the time. There are some Wikipedia pages out there where users might discover they can’t actually edit the page. And one VERIFY reader may have encountered this shortly before submitting their question.
Myfoxzone.com

This is a rather weak article. The protection log has several entries going back to 2007 but it's only semi-protected. Still, it's good to remind people that "anyone can edit" comes with quite a few caveats!

I've always wondered whether WMF could get in trouble for this; probably not, because it's such a minor thing most people won't care.

(Also I can't access that article from the UK :O)

:welcome: berrely. I see you've been a member for a year now, and I hope it won't be another year before your next post. :)

I'm in the UK too. There are various tricks of the trade to get around the access problem.

Oh god it is Fox West Texas. It's probably better for us to not be able to read it.

Home and Away fans react to Wikipedia ‘spoiler’ about fan favourite

Unread post by Poetlister » Sun Oct 24, 2021 10:52 am

Home and Away fans were shocked to discover a 'spoiler' on Wikipedia, which appears to show a fan favourite character may be set to leave Summer Bay this year. A social media user shared the news in a Facebook group for the long-running soap, posting a screenshot from Wikipedia which claims that Ada Nicodemou, aka Leah Patterson, is exiting the show in 2021.

Spoilers on Wikipedia are an annoyance, but any attempt to discourage them leads to cries of NOTCENSORED.

Eternals Plot Posted In Detail On Wikipedia (But It’s All Wrong)

Unread post by Poetlister » Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:42 am

Marvel's Eternals plot details are posted to Wikipedia, and they're all wrong. Eternals is the newest entry in the MCU, featuring an ensemble of superheroes created by beings known as Celestials, who send their creations to Earth to protect and guide humanity against the Deviants, an evil alien race. ...

However, it appears that Eternals is already suffering from some serious misinformation, as the Wikipedia page for the film recently posted a detailed plot breakdown which is all wrong. The details have since been taken down, but Screen Rant staffers have seen the movie and can confirm that much of what was written in the plot details are entirely incorrect, right down to the post-credits scenes. It's unclear who posted the plot details, as Wikipedia is easily manipulated, or if it's possibly an attempt to divert fans from actual spoilers.
Screenrant

I expect that the film is a parable about Wikipedia, with the Celestials representing the admins who defend the world's most important website against the "Deviants" who vandalise it.

Someone should tell him that his dealer has cut his heroin with fentanyl.

You're assuming an operational receiver circuit. I object to that assumption as utterly unevidenced.

Yes. Thank you for asking.

Was there some before the second post in this thread which I missed?

Excellent.

I like to have standards.

You deserve thanks for helping me to set the disgraceful, frightening lower bar over all these years.
