IKS Wiki (Indian government)

Unread post by rnu » Tue Dec 19, 2023 1:31 pm

Indian Knowledge Systems (T-H-L), a part of India's Education department is creating a Wiki.

outlook: IKS Wiki Will Be India's Indigenous Online Repository, All About Centre's New Move
The Centre has decided to create an online repository called IKS Wiki to provide information on topics related to India’s traditional knowledge and culture to the general public.
The government’s initiative will also involve students through an internship programme to contribute and engage with it, HT reported.
The idea behind starting the IKS Wiki is to provide information in a simplified language that can be understood by the common people, the report stated.
“It will carry articles in multiple Indian languages as well as in English,” the report mentioned.
At this point is not clear to me whether the public will be able to edit the Wiki or not. I suspect not.

Here is the brochure they are speaking of (announcing a new wiki)

According to the Hindustan Times, it will only be an internship program for Indian students, paying 1,000 rupees ($12) per accepted article. "Oral traditions of Bharat (India)" will receive priority of submission. This will be a wiki in the sense that the contribs of mentors, reviewers and interns will be seen, but I can with almost 100% certainty say that all edits will have to go through govt-appointed moderators and there will be no free editing.

Also,
Hindustan Times wrote:Under the project, only topics related to the systematized knowledge that is created by Indians in the Indian subcontinent over millennia and has been transmitted through oral traditions, manuscripts, texts and traditional practices will be accepted, the document stated. “Articles solely based on modern knowledge systems and modern scientific methods and analysis do not qualify as IKS projects
