Commons seems to be down [2/28/2024]

I don't know about anyone else, but whenever I try to access commons, it states there is no secular connection. I can only view images hosted on commons but not access commons itself.

I couldn't connect to enwiki yesterday with my VPN, there was no response. It worked fine with every other website. I checked with one of those is it up? websites and there wasn't any problem.

Wait, are you still having a problem? You're not sharing enough details for a troubleshoot, man(?). What's your platform, what's your browser, is it up to date, are your clock and calendar synced with internet time and date, did you try clearing cache and cookies, did you try incognito mode, did you try a different browser, did you try a different device, did you try a different network, did you look for a "proceed anyway" button below the security warning, did you try going to the commons directly instead of through a Wikipedia image view, do you have that problem with literally any other site?

I'm so glad I never had a script.

But seriously, rebooting often worked. Except I used to tell people they had to unplug it, because quite often somebody had tripped over the cable and the reason they could not connect to the internet was (dum dum) the air gap between them and the internet. Also true of backbone routers as I later found out.

I once moved into a flat where the phone line wasn't hooked up. So a technician needed to come. I got one of those "someone will come sometime between 5am and 9pm" appointments -- twice. Both times no-one came. When I called for a third appointment I was told that their system said it was hooked up. So the service hotline connected me with the technical hotline.
First question: "what's the firmware version of your router?"
- "No idea, but it doesn't matter, the technician didn't show."
"I'm sorry, but I need to know your firmware version."
- Slowly: "The technician did not show."
"I need your firmware version. Are you sitting in front of your computer?"
- After a very deep breath: "No. Due to the nature of my problem I am standing in a phone booth."
"I can't do anything without your firmware version."
- "The firmware has nothing to do with it. THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT SHOW."
"I can't do anything without your firmware version. Do you have a mobile phone where a technician can call you back."
- "Yes. A crappy old one and I get barely any signal in my flat I can't guarantee that the call will go through. That's why I am calling from a phone booth."
"A technician will call you tomorrow."
- Next day. I prepared everything, looked up the firmware information (and all kinds of other stuff that was equally irrelevant, but probably in the script) and waited for the call.
An actual technician calls: "How did you connect your computer?"
- The gray cable from here to there, the yellow cable from there to here."
"Yeah. There's not really much you can do wrong there. I'll send a technician."

I'll try for chrome. I try to access it through both a Wiki or url. I bookmarked it but there's no accessing it.

You say you can access images on commons. Does that mean just the actual file, e.g.

or can you also access the page for the file, e.g.

Lol. I know, I gave one to myself also. Tier 2 and 3 WAN support was even more so. ("When you say Hong Kong can't talk to Singapore, what are they trying to do exactly?") It might be hardwired at this point. Maybe there's a 12 step program for this.

If Ca$hbag is "running" something in addition to a standard browser, that might be part of this story also. Or not, depending on what the hell we're talking about. If "it", whatever "it" is, works on one device but not another, then the reason for that will be one of the ways the devices are different.
