I was randomly clicking through the 37 entries in Category:Proposed Wikimedia Research Fund applications in FY 2021-22 and came across Omer Benjakob's (עומר בן יעקב (T-C-L)) application Wikipedia as a tool for understanding contemporary science and the growth of knowledge. He's asking for 40,000-50,000 USD. You may recall that it was Benjakob who published Icewhiz's conspiracy theory, The Fake Nazi Death Camp: Wikipedia’s Longest Hoax, Exposed .
Benjakob previously asked for 3500 USD to fund research on Meta-analysis of Wikipedia's coronavirus references and citations, but it doesn't appear to have been funded. It was recently published though at Citation needed? Wikipedia bibliometrics during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This should be a slam-dunk refusal, right?
You publish a fake-history conspiracy story by a San-Fran-banned waste of skin who tried to scam their way into advanced privileges as an administrator, you get shown the door.
Possibly even get banned from further applications for grants, I'd hope.
This needs more visibility.

Are the grant writers actually familiar with Wikipedia and it's assorted dramas? Or are they like most of the board, and have no experience or knowledge about the project?

I have not entirely kept up with this particular strain of nonsense, but I suspect the application was made with the hope and assumption it would fail. Teeing up an "I and the other brave truth tellers haz been censored" article.Zoloft wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 11:30 pmThis should be a slam-dunk refusal, right?
