Jimbo wrote:Leading technology futurist and Wikipedia and WT.Social Founder Jimmy Wales is one of the most sought after visionaries in business and technology. Wikipedia is the 5th Most Popular Website in the WORLD, moving towards the goal of free access for all to the sum of human knowledge. WT.Social is a groundbreaking, collaboratively editable social networking platform that will change the way we digest news. When audiences meet Wales, outspoken and defiant in his protection of transformative ideas, they understand why he is compared to historic greats like Gutenberg. Hailed as “thoughtful and visionary,” “inspiring,” and “absolutely WONDERFUL,” event planners cite Wales’ optimism for the future and masterful ability to speak on issues ranging from censorship, Artificial Intelligence, automation, the media, and disruption, as elements that make him a standout speaker.

ABOUT JIMMY WALES
Jimmy has a new website, https://jimmy.cafe, that's currently a work in progress. His new bio (which has spread all over the internet) is a bit over the top.
Re: ABOUT JIMMY WALES
You'd think an historically great highly sought-after leading visionary technology futurist would know what a spellchecker was.

He's using Bitnami, which "provides pre-packaged images for automated setup of popular server software on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms." Seminar and self belief look like they're placeholders that come with his package. Searching for ""have you ever got a feeling about yourself that you can do much better" gives 56,000 results of people using it.

OK, I was up late last night and stepped on my dick there.
However, I'm not sure if this is better for him or worse for him.
Why does a "Leading technology futurist" use a cookie cutter site maker and why does "one of the most sought after visionaries in business and technology" not have the web guy fill in the form pages with actual content before sending the site live?
It's pretty funny stuff either way.

I'm skeptical. This seems like a weird thing for Jimbo to do. That's a strange choice of domain. Dot cafe? Perhaps the work of a Jimbo fanboy? Or someone hoping to get Jimbo to buy the domain?tarantino wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 5:48 pmJimmy has a new website, https://jimmy.cafe, that's currently a work in progress. I can see why he chose GANDI for this — they just started running a discount promotion of 85% off for the first six months. Smart!

I like that after he compares himself to Johannes Gutenberg the closest thing we get to a specific testimonial is from unnamed event planners.

I really think you guys are barking up the wrong tree here. Jimbo hasn't even updated his "official" site (jimmywales.com) since 2012. If he's going to start a new site, it won't be on .cafe.

Re: ABOUT JIMMY WALES
Oh well... at least it lasted a couple of days longer than most of his internet startup ventures.
I was just checking the domain name pricing, though, and whoever did this must have spent a semi-decent amount of money on it. "Jimmy" is a very common name, so that increases the valuations — "jimmy.tv" is valued at $999 on GoDaddy, for example. (Apparently, "Johnny" is even more desirable, with "Johnny.co" going for a whopping $50,000.)
More to the point, ICANN approved ".wales" as a top-level domain back in 2014. I just checked, and while "jimmy.wales" is taken (probably by Jimbo), "jimbo.wales" is not — anyone could go off and buy it for just $30 a year. So anyone trying to joe-job Jimbo should have bought that domain, no...? "Jimmy.cafe" probably would've cost them more than that — three times as much wouldn't surprise me.
Anyway, if I had to guess who was behind this (assuming it's not Jimbo), I'd have to say it was probably the Hindu nationalists. It just seems like something they would do.

Re: ABOUT JIMMY WALES
The funniest thing about this to me is that it was entirely plausible that jimmy.cafe was Jimbo's next failed venture.
Shitty domain, muddled messaging, smells like a grift, poor website design...
Six of one, half dozen of another.
Like a corollary to Poe's_law (T-H-L)

Re: ABOUT JIMMY WALES
Hi - that's a (nonfunctioning at the moment) redesign of my personal website which I haven't put live. The text there was copied by the designer from various sources. The part you object to appears to be marketing text from my speaking agent, see: https://www.harrywalker.com/speakers/jimmy-wales . You are right in sensing that I wouldn't put that text on my personal website - it's only a placeholder for whenever I get around to editing it. The design of the page is what that's all about.

Wow. Just wow. The inexplicable choice of domain, the terrible copy, and the cut-and-paste design lead me to believe that this couldn't possibly be a serious site by someone who tries to portray himself as some kind of internet heavyweight. I owe everyone here an apology. I am sorry.
