George W. Perkins (producer)

Unread post by Kraken » Tue Apr 23, 2024 8:51 am

I just stumbled upon George W. Perkins (producer) (T-H-L), a biography created in 2007, that seems to have miraculously evaded all subsequent tightening of standards.

Even now, it is largely unchanged from the state of first creation. Three paragraphs, with a single source, the man's IMDB page.

Initial version.....
George W. Perkins is an American producer of films and television series, most known for being one of the producers of the dramedy Desperate Housewives, of wich he is one of the executive producers since 2006.

Beginning in the early 1980s Perkins produced or co-produced movies like the 1983 indie film Joystick, Teen Wolf starring Michael J. Fox from 1985, the 1986 thriller movie Extremities starring Farrah Fawcett and Who's Harry Crumb? from 1989, starring John Candy.

During the 1990s and 2000s Perkins moved on to mainly producing telefilms. In addition he co-produced the 1997 action movie Metro starring Eddie Murphy, and in 2003 he was one of the producers for the short lived thriller series Threat Matrix starring James Denton.
Present day version......
George W. Perkins is an American producer of films and television series, most known for being one of the producers of the dramedy Desperate Housewives, of which he is one of the executive producers since 2006.

Beginning in the early 1980s Perkins produced or co-produced movies like the 1983 indie film Joysticks, Teen Wolf starring Michael J. Fox (1985), the 1986 thriller movie Extremities starring Farrah Fawcett and Who's Harry Crumb? from 1989, starring John Candy.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Perkins moved on to mainly producing telefilms. In addition he co-produced the 1997 action film Metro starring Eddie Murphy, and in 2003 he was one of the producers for the short lived thriller series Threat Matrix starring James Denton. Since 2004, he's been involved with producing Desperate Housewives, taking over the executive producer position for the 2007–2008 season.
In the 17 years since it was first created, the only substantive edit was to add that last line.

The creator is long gone. A couple of thousand edits over a year, there's no red flags. Just a guy adding popular culture to Wikipedia. His parting message was perhaps a warning to the world....
I'm off Wikipedia - too much time is spent on cleaning up other people's mess to make it worth it.
Quite.

The warning went unheeded.

It's not like it somehow went unnoticed in his absence. It was categorized as a BLP from day one, and has numerous incoming links. It's been moved three times, from (television producer) to (filmmaker) to finally (producer). By the same user on the same day in 2021. But Wikipedia has always known which George Perkins (T-H-L) this is from day one, courtesy of the creator. He was the third George Perkins (and second George W. Perkins) on Wikipedia.

Various people have tinkered with it, adding all the widgets and doodads that give further visibility to biographies, from which problems can be found and corrected. Someone even literally tagged it as needing more references all the way back in 2019.

Oh, and someone added an infobox.

But other than that, it's quite clear nobody gives a shit about George. Not even George!

The last person to edit it was none other than Steven Pruitt (T-H-L). Proof, if it were needed, that the media doesn't know shit about Wikipedia.

The guy has never even been vandalized. It's had two edits from unregistered users, both helpful. Rather amusingly, the super banned Neelix (T-C-L) edited it once. Jokestress had made a good faith error, and Neelix politely corrected it.

So what's gone wrong? It seems clear. Poor old George hasn't been cared for like he should have been, because there's nothing immediately obviously wrong. You can surmise its not a hoax without even checking his IMDB page exists (which I haven't). He's not so obviously undeserving of a Wikipedia page that someone needs to act immediately. But he is quite unimportant. Not that it hasn't stopped someone requesting a profile picture of course.

There are more pressing BLP problems on Wikipedia.

George is merely unreferenced. Low profile. Unprotected.

George can wait.

Fuck you George. /Wikipedia

:rotfl: :crying:
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.
