This morning the history channel explained the origin of the phrase, "balls to the wall". It has to do with ball-topped airplane control levers being pushed forward as far as they can go, i.e. going all-out. Questionable though - at least some controls would put you into a dive if pushed fully forw...

A study/survey of blocked editors would be difficult to execute, particularly for permablocked anonymous editors.
I think that the attendant unblock-grovelling that is expected by some admins and the fact that block logs are used as a badge of shame are two things that are very wrong.
